Arts Education
Every child in Los Angeles County should have access to standards-based, quality, sequential arts education – an arts curriculum that is taught by a qualified teacher, is ongoing and meaningful, and tied to learning in other critical subjects, such as science, math, and English. Realizing this goal is a central piece of Arts for LA's Platform.

SMMUSD Budget Update
Early this week, arts education advocates along with many other parents, educators, and community members in Santa Monica and Malibu were disappointed to learn that Measure A failed according to the latest vote count.* Measure A, a parcel tax initiative conducted by SMMUSD through a mail-in only election, was the district’s best shot at retaining many of its programs and staff.

Transparent Budgeting Meeting at LAUSD

To address concerns about the district budgeting process, LAUSD has adopted a Transparent Budgeting Initiative and created a "Transparent Budgeting Advisory Group" comprised of community members, school leadership, parents and union representatives to "provide feedback on policy and operational issues related to creating a transparent and effective budgeting process for schools."
